Words and Prejudices

Inspired by the cultural significance of Chinese characters, I explore the representation of the Chinese character for "female" as a way to challenge gender stereotypes, question the true meaning of gender equality, and examine the realities of women's status in China.
The character itself reflects a historical truth—women in ancient China were dependent on men for survival, reinforcing the deeply ingrained notion of male superiority and female inferiority. Through this jewelry design, I seek to break these linguistic and cultural shackles, raising awareness of the ways language shapes societal perceptions of gender and encouraging reflection on the path toward true equality.
